No disrespect, but I believe this line of reasoning is mostly peculiar to the south...maybe a remnant of the Civil War??

I carry one to keep from getting killed. May not work but it gives me a fighting chance. I don't look for trouble but like that movie theatre you never know when trouble comes looking for you. There are evils that need to be eliminated and crazies that need to be helped if they survive the altercation.

Colorado wasn't a state during the Civil War. There were Union and Southern sympathizers. The only thing I know about the Civil War is my ancestors lived on the wrong side of the border and fought to save their homes and families. They were poor and didn't own slaves.I imagine everyone in Colorado owns a gun except maybe in the few metropolitan areas like Denver. Hunting and pedator control is a way of life there. The Sherriff could be 45 minutes away or even longer. The Sherriffs have enough knowledge to know that self protection in the rural areas of Colorado is a necessity.
