Porting the exhaust

I understand that when removing metal it should be done evenly. However when it comes to the Savage we are limited because of design.
In this case can the exhaust be ported more where I have illustrated with the red lines in pic.
Can it be a oval?

I did mine in somewhat of a D shape, with the bottom being the flat side of the D.
