Time to get the cobwebs off Old Thumper!!!

Hey there gang,
It's been a long time since I last posted on the forum.
Five years of garaged neglect have had there way with my savage. So far I have dumped old fuel, changed plug, cleaned carb, changed oil ( used the valvoline 10/40 m/c ) and a new battery. Also gave her a bubble bath and some wax. Runs just as good as I left her. With 7435 on the odom I'm getting to the point of doing a verslavvy mod, prob by the end of this riding season.

Check that bolt (nut) and make sure it is tight, and the other one as well. Those both go into the intake and exhaust passages, and have been known to loosen up.

From the pic it doesn't look bad. How is it running? Is there any discoloration or seeping around the rest of the head gasket area? Be careful and only tighten these two bolts to the correct torque specs...look this up in the tech section.

Both front and back bolts are wet. Not too bad. What is the torque spec on these bolts?

I checked the bolts on my 2011 today and the front one was a little loose. I just put a 12 mm box wrench on it and gave it a good tug and snugged it down good.

Believe it or not, Mine had oil seeping there as well as at the head, turns out it was that stupid plug at the head cover... super simple fix

Those two nuts, on front and back, here's what I did: I had some thread locker left, remove nuts and clean the threads real good. The studs and the nuts. Then put the thread locker all the way around the studs as close to the top as possible. Put the nuts on and tighten. The thread locker will squish into the crevices and also out around the nuts. Wipe off excess and let it cure. This will act as a seal and also prevent the nuts from coming loose again, yet you will still be able to take them off if you had to.Works fine on mine, no more leaks. This is assuming it isn't coming from the head rubber plug.
