I wanted to thank all of the forum members for posting their knoledge and experiences here. I bought a 2003 a couple of months ago and when i brought it to florida from a higher elevation it ran very rough, the little poof at shutoff became ganglandish and between shifts was a firefight. The good part was cars avoided me the bad part was LEO didnt like it. So searching the internet i stumpled upon your goldmine of information and have almost completly fixed my bike. Just waiting on a 55 pilot and header gasket. The white spacer mod gave me my oomph back and i hope the pilot will return me to my usual im here poof.

florida is practically under water half the time Grin

so a richer pilot may do the job. Embarrassed

Some of the places i ride are supposedly below sea level, snorkle on order and a wet suit, all its done is rain the last couple of days. Yes the 152.5 main helped alot but the white spacer mod made it rideable. The PO put a hollowed out dyna on and didnt rejet, so im cleaning up.

onejug, where in Florida are you?

I live in Orlando. I have a 2005 S40 and this are the mods I've done to mine thus far:

• Petcock replaced with Raptor (vacuum connection sealed)
• Dyna muffler
• K&N filter (replacing the one in the air box)
• Main 150, Pilot 52.5 (stock), 3 washers on the needle
• 2 turns(out) on the screw
My bike has about 2,300 miles on it and it runs great, no pops, no backfires. it only shakes a little bit when I pass 190mph......lol Grin

Joke aside, I can cruise at 75mph real easy, very responsive.

Near Tampa. I apreciate the advice. I have a little different set up, maybe im on the rich side now, but at higher speeds it runs cooler and the pipe is still chrome with just a tinge of gold and holding so far. I have a 152.5 main, a 52.5 pilot and 2 white spacers. The ones i found seemed thick and 2 was just a little over half of the old spacer so i went with it. It runs good now. As a side note it did have a bad exhaust gasket at the head and the dyna (before i unclamped it from the header) slipped off in my hand when i unbolted it from the support mount. I love cleaning up after PO's. . Other than that though the bike looks new and he kept up the maintenance.

Yea I have pics on my upswept exhaust thread. It's a very tight fit and about 8" in tapering down where the original wall was, there was still a good amount of factory weld left so I just hammered it down in there seated against the original welds. Can you think of any way to weld a freeze plug shoved 8" down a hole that is tapered from 1 3/4" down to 1 1/4"? Shocked

Srinath suggested tack welding it too, but didn't answer with a suggestion of how Roll Eyes

If you feel you must tack it in then drill holes where needed and fill them in from the inside where youre hole went through both pipe and baffle. Of course make sure you completely reseal the holes.
