87 savage stiff clutch lever
02/20/13 at 12:09:16

Im new to the savage as this is my first motorcycle.... I have a question about the clutch.  When I pull the clutch lever in, it feels really stiff as compared to my 1989 suzuki LTZ 250R atv that I had in high school in which the lever pressure was much less compared to the savage. The 250s clutch lever I could pull with two fingers, and on the savage i have to squeeze the lever with all four fingers and with a great deal of effort. A friend and I inspected the clutch and it was replaced by the previous owner, and i was wondering if the normal lever pressure is supposed to be stiff or should it be like the 250?? .. Also, the bike has been in storage for about 5 years prior to me buying it.. Could this have anything to do with the stiff clutch??  Any info is appreciated greatly

release the cable and try to move the clutch lever manually. It should move quiet easy. If not check that lever can move freely, if not - then we should open it up and check if assembly,is correct. Dont worry, even this is farely simply operation.
