cheap and easy mid mount footpegs

I should have posted this tip here.  But since I am a new oldtimer I put it in the "what every newbie should know".  It is a very inexpensie approach to having a set of mid mounts I do believe.

OK, here is the gist of it.  U bolt a 19 or 20 inch strap to the underside of your swingarm, about 21/2 inches behind swing arm pivot bolt.  Interested? You can get a more detailed account in the "what every newbie should know " in Rubber Side Down.

You need to fully detail this before you post in the tech section.

The savage could benefit from some standard style footpegs.  Fancy rearsets are expensive and the passenger footpegs are just too far back.  There is a cheap easy solution.  Get a 19 or 20 inch piece of 1/4 or 3/16 inch flatstock a couple inches wide.  Try and find some hard steel.  I used and old leaf spring.  Get a couple u bolts from the hardware store.  I slid a piece of rubber gas line over the u bolts so I would not scratch my swing arm.  You will have to cut a notch for the brake light wire.  My footpegs sit about 21/4 inches behind the swing arm pivot.  It just clears the muffler heat shield.  If you mount longer shocks you will have to notch the heat shield a little bit.  Just to make it clear... the piece of flatstock fits on the bottom side of the swing arm.
