Any battery shop, auto electrician or garage should be able to do a quick harsh discharge test, which will give a good indication of eminent failure. It's probably better to remove the battery and take it to them, saves mucking around pulling the seat off when you get to the shop or garage.

Why would you pull the seat?? Battery slides out the right side of the battey box. Just did it 2 weeks ago to install a new one.

The "Officially Approved" method of removing the battery involves removing the seat for access to the screw securing the left side cover. Removing the left side cover gives access to the screw securing the battery cable to the battery.
Battery life is highly variable, and seems to depend on usage patterns and care. With the use and care I give mine, they seem to last at least five years.

There are also different types of batteries. The sealed glass mat types are a good choice as they don't require maintenance.
BTW, as with all batteries remove the grounded side first when disconnecting, and attach it last when reconnecting. If you don't do this, and your wrench hits the frame on the +12V side, you'll immediately understand why.

My AGM battery is now near 5 years old. Still going strong. I ride all winter if it's dry out.

A lead acid battery lasts almost indefinitely as long as you don't let it die. They don't have a measurable life-span because if taken care of, they will outlast the vehicle. Don't buy one until you need one.

Like said, for battery longivity,..
Don't let it die, and don't let it go dry for sure,....
And don't let it set in a discharged state, not even a small one.
Keeping it as close to fully charged as possible at all times can give a very long lifespan. This could mean keeping it on a maintainer charger when not riding, or at least giving it an overniter once every month or 2, even while riding.
Many think if you ride once in a while, the battery is fully charged, but it most likely is not !

For a reasonable price, you can get one of these:
http://www.harborfreight.com/500-amp-carbon-pile-load-tester-91129.html
I've had one for years. I use my own VOM to measure voltage, though, as the voltmeter on the load tester I have is dodgy.
A load test is the common man's battery testing gold standard.....
