Do you crash a lot? Even if you do, I doubt the engine "guard" is going to do much if you crash so hard that you bust your forks so bad you reach the engine.
Engine guards are for aesthetic purposes only.
Engine guards save Turn signal, shifter arms, break arms. foot pegs, break levers, cluch levers. scraches where you don't want them. But your right. They don't do much for an engine on a S40
