Running Rich

Picked up an 86. Runs good but rich and fouls plugs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Budro,.. welcome to SS.com...

Questions are best asked in the Rubberside section...  More people will see and answer here...
Wink...
Tech section is for showing how-to, not asking... Smiley...

Give us some more info...
What is your location?... any mods to the bike?...
How many miles on it?...
Anything else you think might give us clues...

Running rich can be corrected by carefully leaning the mixture.

Check this thread:

Turning that screw can make a world of difference. The tech section has about all the basic know-how you need. I devoted a few hours to reading through it, even if I thought I already knew it, and it has saved me several headaches.

Also, the "Search" button is third in from the left at the top left edge of this window. You can quickly answer questions using that.... Grin

I guess you could tell I was a bit flippant, eh?

There must be 20 threads in RSD and in the Tech ref section on carb tuning, covering every circuit in the carb including the throttle enrichment valve.  A virtual wealth of info!  It'll take a few hours one evening to wade through all of that, but after you do, you'll know quite enough to tune the carb quite well, and not strip any screws doing it.

First thing to do,.. before messin' with carb and jetting,... is do this test...
It will rule out any petcock problem that might be occurring.. Wink...
Test your Petcock,.. don't just turn it to Prime..
