bike tried to kill me!!!
10/24/12 at 20:59:01

or maybe it was user error.

I recently put on a dyna muff, k&n and 150 main jet.  Been riding for a few days and LOVING my new bike.  Who knew?

Anyway, today as I was about to make a turn onto another street, slowing down from about 50mph,  I tried to downshift and the frekin bike cut off.  Before I realized what happened I downshifted and let the clutch out and the back tire almost took me for it's own ride  Huh

I've been trying to tweak the idle and air screw to get the perfect setup and the idle may have been a little slow.  I guess my question is could a slow idle cause the bike to stall?  I never had this problem before I made the changes.  otherwise the bike is running like a champ!

If you don't run at least 1,000 rpm at idle you put your cam bearings at risk for low oil pressure.

how do you know if you're idling at 1000rpm with no tach?

If youre runnin along & pull the clutch in & let the gas drop to idle & it dies, speed up the idle.

Another good indicator of correct idle speed when you don't have a tach is to idle in first gear and note your speed,  should be around 8 to 9 mph and that is in the range of the target idle that you are wanting for this engine.

Is the 1k rpm a cold or hot number?? So a 1000 cold and 1200-1400 warm?? Or just use the TEV/choke to keep up rpms till warm??

Im tweaking the idle for about the first 15 minutes. I dont want it running at 1300 once its warm,, I can feel whats about right, Ill allow it to be a little high, its a lot less expensive than having it low,, but, cold, it idles low,, so, I tweak it up, as it warms up, I reach down & give it a little twist. Its running the right RPM when I shut it down when I get home, but, Itll need a bump tomorrow..I not only dont mind,, I kinda like it.. Its a rude, crude machine, & it needs me to pay attention to it if I am gonna operate it,
I had an 81 Ford van, 300 6 banger, 3 on the tree,, drove it 9 years, only radio I ever had in it was a CB,, Id rather pay attention to the machine than a radio,, I sometimes listen to the radio in the 87 Ford, also 300 CID 6 banger, 4 on the floor, but generally, Id rather listen to the motor,,

Just say,,,,"put,.put,.put,.put,.put,.put,." as absolutely fast as you can... and yer' idle should be at least that fast...

... you mean,.. you haven't learned to bump start in a drift?... Huh...

No particular reason,, dont want an 1800 rpm one, either,,I wanna be able to idle in 1st & not have to be on & off the clutch going thru a parking lot w/ traffic, just personal preference, kinda like how I like broccoli cooked, theres no right  or wrong, just dont allow it to run too slow.
