I usually use the ones from Autozone. They look like a cone airfilter only smaller.Under 10 bucks.

Just putting a filter on the end of a hose and venting the fumes to the atmosphere is illegal and pisses off the tree-huggers.
-- In the ATL area, the local bike shops (especially the ones that build custom bikes) have occasional "conversations" with the gendarmerie about violating emissions requirements.
-- Technically, you aren't allowed to modify the stock smog system. In actuality, most the authorities around here will be okay with the crankcase fumes being dumped into the intake system somewhere.
-- It annoys me that RYCA did not have any way to handle this issue. They don't even mention it. How do they get away with that out in CA?
On the Double RYCA build, this is how we set up a really cheap but stock OE-looking solution to crankcase emissions. See reply #130.

Reply #2 shows what I did.
Someone, I think it was Cavi Mike?
Did a filter that had a 90 degree fitting on it for the breather.

No apology necessary. I'm flattered, in fact, you remembered it and offered it up as an option.
The concept seems to be working well. I have a few hundred miles on mine now.
-- There aren't any dribbles anywhere, and the upstream side of the carb is not getting stained or anything.
-- The hose and automotive breather unit appear to have enough volume for the huffing and puffing into that tube.
-- The whole thing is inside a closed system so there isn't any way for dust or other particles to get inside.

I am surprised how little junk comes out of the breather tube. That rolled up screen inside the head cover must do a good job of filtering out the oil particles from the air pulses.
I do like the way that Gryobob solved the issue.

They are part of the float bowl venting system. Just route them forward, up between the spine of the frame and the tank.

The filter/breather I use just has a 3/8ths hose barb that slides into the original vent hose.

No filter because there is very little movement of air. Those tubes are just vents to make sure the pressure inside bowl is the same as ambient.
Your comment is worth pondering though. There are so many little creepy crawly things in the southeast, it might not be a bad idea to just cover the ends of the tubes with some panty hose material or gauze or some such.

That's what I did too...90 degree fitting with barbed ends, with aa discrete zip tie to the frame.
