You're screwed.  The taillight you bought only has one filament in it,.. the bulb does, anyway.  it is either on or off.  The Savage taillight unit has a bulb with two filaments, a bright for stop and a medium for taillight.  The three wires are for ground, stop, and taillight.

Either get another aftermarket taillight unit with a dual filament bulb, or take out the socket in your new taillight and replace it with a socket for a dual filament bulb.

Is it a two-filament bulb in a two filament socket?  If so, why does it not have three wires?  Is there no ground wire?  If not, that means the ground would be through the metal in the light casing itself.  You'll have to make a genuine effort to make sure it is all grounded properly.

1 bulb, 2 filaments
its in a metal case that i welded to a metal license plate bracket that is also welded to the frame... that would be alright i think?

you should be fine with that mount. I had a ground-through-the-frame taillight would work bolted to the rear fender. I moved it to the swingarm and had to run a ground wire that was just sandwiched between the mount and light and ran to a ground wire.

I usually always add the 3rd wire to make sure I have a ground.  Things shake around so much that grounding components to the frame leaves so much room for vibrations to screw up grounds.  Personal preference I guess.

This is fine as long as the ground stays intact.  Johnny57 brings up a good point about that.
