I am guessing that the left and right engine side covers are made from aluminum?????? Therefore can be polished. Smiley

KInda comes down to what are you wanting to do. Some guys want them looking like mirrors, I just wanted mine to look stok again. I put a 3m scotchbrite pad on a jitterbug & cut the crap off using a spray bottle to keep things working good, & shot it clear. Others spend hours with polishing compounds & buffing wheels.. How much you wanna rub? How much you wanna ride?

Have a look in here

I stripped the clear coat off mine, sanded the tarnished sections with ultra fine wet sandpaper, then buffed everything on a buffing wheel.  They look great - although the aluminum in the castings appears to have some grain and th color is not consistent everywhere and appears spotty in some areas.  The aluminum is very soft and scratches easily - and if your bike sits outside or you ride in the wet it will require hand polishing to keep it nice.

You can strip the clear coat with paint stripper - buff to a scratchy finish or polish to a shine, and then put a clear coat over the aluminum to protect the shine.  Use a clear coat made for applying directly to polished metal.
