So I picked up an 03 that is my first Savage. Before I went far I decided to go throught the fluids and the O ring between the oil filter and crankcase is not there???????Clymer says there should be an O ring. I assume I need an O ring??????

Maybe it stuck on the old oil filter? If not, go and buy a new one. Without that o-ring you have no good filtering because of the additional bypass.

ohhh, i looked at everything, even strained the oil looking for it. NO O-ring. I dont imagine it was getting well filtered oil.
