Possible class action suit over stock vac petcock

Is this the one that fits?

http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/1?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=+5LP-24500-01-00&x=21&y=9&p...

Do you know if I install this now while my bike is under warranty, it might void it possibly if, heaven forbid, I have a major issue with it?

I do suspect some fuel issues already, at 900 miles, I've had it poop out (dying) while slowing to a stop, and it seems I need to keep it top off, for the most part, as I've ran out once and had to swith to reserve while under way, but I'm use to a trip odometer to warn me where my fuel use it at  Tongue

There are laws out there that protect you from them denying warranty claims because of accessories and mods done to your vehicle. Basically what the laws say is that they can't deny any warranty work on the vehicle except for the part you put on that is not a factory part or if that part causes the issue that is needing repair. It is also up to the dealer to prove that your added part or accessory caused the damage if they want to try and deny the warranty claim.

Raydawg,

BOTH YOU AND COLOS40GIRL ARE UNDER WARRANTY !!!!

Beat a path directly to your dealership and demand they replace your defective stock vac sucker at once.

Call Suzuki America and get a defect case number, the both of you, so we have the start of demanding a recall notice being sent out on the current crop of bad vac petcocks.

This is actionable, but only if the people under warranty ACT to get defect case numbers and raise the attention of Suzuki America to the issue of defective vac petcocks causing Savage bikes to die in traffic (very dangerous).

What rfw said. I'm sure you've heard of SEMA and you may think of the huge car convention in Las Vegas every year but what you probably didn't know is SEMA is the reason why what rfw said is true. They are a huge association that lobbies for people to be able to modify their vehicles with parts that aren't overpriced Suzuki/Toyota/GM/etc parts and still keep their warranty.

Manufacturers are very aware of Class Action lawsuits, and do not like them. Make sure your purchase agreement doesn't contain a Binding Arbitration clause. If it does, you have signed away your right to join a Class Action suit.

She hasn't gotten back with any more pertinent details, so maybe she is headed for her stealership to get some in-warranty dis-service from Mikey, this summer's newbie single cylinder reppy-boy.

Justin, you shouldn't get us all started on Suzuki Service again.

We will hear all about it soon enough, I suspect.

Real bad gas, huh.   Bean burritos or avocado tacos?

I've run the stock petcock on all savages ... 5 so far, I dont know why you are having trouble ... seriously. Maybe the new ones are junk. But them 87 ones as well as the 2001 I had were all beautiful.
Cool.

My stock petcock worked great (as a fishing weight). If the vacuum line got hot it cracked, had to change the line every few weeks. Honda petcock on it now (manual type from the 70s) works great.

More fail prone nanny state mandated trinkets... kickstand switch (lasted a month) and clutch switch (lasted a couple years). Front brake caliper worked for a week. Fork seals lasted 10 minutes.

And none of it is covered by the warranty, they are all "wear items". They are only covered if there is a recall (like VS 800 petcocks with rot prone seals).

It's designed as a bargain basement beginner's throw away. You don't actually expect the factory to care do you?

OK any bike with a single disk front brake tends to eat fork seals, and after 4-5k impossible to get em to seal up. Wear ... in the world of oil seals a few 1000's is enough to never seal, and worse yet 1 speck of rust is enough to kill it. Its a design flaw ... forget about it ever working ... ever. I swap gs500's over from their 1 disk forks to a larger dia twin disk katana forks and I see the seals rust on the outside seating surface but still hold oil on the inner. These are crappy quality but dont twist when you brake, they just bend backward toward the exhaust ... and straighten back when you let go of the brakes ... you do know that everything moves right ... just how much and in what direction is what counts.

Then kickstand switch - didn;t have much issue on the suzuki ones, though I have bypassed a few on gs500's, but the kawasaki ones are complete disaster.
Then the petcock -
The vacuum line does need to be routed sway from making cylinder fin contact, it will wear and burn a nice hole in it ... However I have used them in no less than 5 savages ... in 95 I bought a 87, and I have onwed another 87 that I sold in 2009 after buying it in 08, another I bought st patty day 09 and sold in 2010 july, and the one I am working on now I have owned and sold and owned and sold and owned and sold 3 X ... yea owned by a friend of mine who has an inordinate attachment to this savage as well as a propensity to blow it up ... apparently it helped him get laid once ... and much like his marriage blows up just as often ... anyway ... over that period its broken a valve, broken the cam chain tensioner as well as many assorted bits and pieces, but not the petcock.

GS500's OTOH have a 2 petcock system ... 2 X the trouble you say ... OK but 2 X 0 is still 0. Just IMHO.

Cool.

I do not believe I purchased bad gas.  I bought gas at Costco and never had a problem.  I just gassed up at King Soopers and put in 1.290 gallons.  I had the same issue with stopping at a stop sign twice like the OP stated.  I am going to call the dealership and ask about the vac petcock and take the bike in.  I just had a 600 mile service and either they siphoned my tank OR I have another issue.  With only 572 miles on the clock I should not be having these problems. I am almost afraid to ride it alone.  I do not want to be strained on the side of the road.

With ONLY 572 miles on the clock, you bet I expect to be taken care of even though I bought this bike as a "drop" bike.  I certainly do not have these types of problems with my other bike and it has over 3 thousand miles on it.

OF   You get'm girl -- these complacent arsed folks who run stock everything and NEVER have had any trace of the problems really don't even believe the rest of us when we talk about it having it .....
