Help please choosing exhaust
09/20/12 at 19:03:53

I'm looking to upgrade from the stock exhaust to something a little less lawnmowerish.

so far it looks like this will fit
http://www.motosport.com/cruiser/Jardine-Rumblers-SlipOn-Slashcut-Exhaust

I also see that the Harleys can fit on there.
I don't really want to be the loudest on the block I just want a little rumble so cars at least know i'm not riding a scooter.

I'm also looking for something that isn't going to be a massive overhaul.  Is the slip on really that?  or does it require cutting and welding?

For now, simple is the name of the game.

Any advice or suggestions are quite welcome

I have the blue collar bobber drag pipe on mine, pretty good sound without being overwhelming. Easy to install, but you really need to re-jet the carb after installing.  Here is a helpful link for exhaust sounds.

The Jardine you linked to is extremely loud like obnoxiously loud. If you look in the Tech section there is a thread on the Dyna mufflers that will tell you which ones will fit.

The Dyna looks nice on this bike. It opens it up some, for a deeper tone, w/o the raucous roar that will have people sitting at the lite next to you wishing you would drop dead. Its cheap, too, so, if you try it & dont like it, youre not out a load O $$$.
Call around to HD shops or anyone who works on them. Guys buy a new HD & ride them straight to be "customized"..

Thanks everyone.  What kind of work is required to put on the dyna muffler?  Are they all the same or do I need a specific one?

Welcome to the Savage Site.

Spend some time looking through the Technical Section.  Go to the exhaust section.....and you will find the information on the Dyna Muffler installation.

There may be another one out there, but, IMO, its either Dyna or Supertrapp.
Best bang for the buck? Hands down, Dyna & I think its better lookin that then Trapp. & I have a TRapp.,

I admire you for that,.. JOG... Wink...

Gerry H. has a S-trap... and since I'm his mechanic, I've learned a bit about them...
Good fit, good performance... but, poor quality, and they blow out the packing pretty quick...
We've had to re-weld the disc holding bolts... and re-packed several times...(never seems to last long)....
Gerry is considering... re-pack again,... (this time with steel),.. or swap to a Harley shorty...
The Harley muff, is cheaper than a re-pack... and will outlast it.
Excellent quality on the chrome with a Harley...
I'm not a Harley fan,... but those muffs are top flight...
Harley guys are nuts for replacing them...
Wink...

Call around to the bike shops. Guys buy a new HD & have the mufflers replaced with something more,, whatever,, expensive, I guess.. the HD shop may have a take off for $20.00,, dont just up & tell them ya want it for rice burner,, its okay if they think you have a HD & need a new one, or ask if they have a pair,,heck,, have a spare for $20.00,, you can sell it,Ir save it for the off chance you mess that one up.

I snagged a used Jardine from one of the members here...love it.  Yeah, it's just shy of obnoxiously loud under hard throttle.  It's got a lot more midrange tone than low frequency tone, but I quite like it's bubbly, echo-ey percussive mean-ness.  Cool

I had to cut a little bit of aluminum flashing and wrap it to get it to seal properly to the header pipe, but all it took was the aluminum flashing and some tin snips.
