When mine was new to me it had 7400 miles, stock everything. I got up to around 97, but since then I was told by Serowbot that the speed is optomistic with stock size tires. As the man said about the Piper Cubs when asked how fast they went he said they would fly fast enough to kill you, so that's my final answer.

I once tested the speedo with my GPS and I just took it to about 88-89 and GPS tracker said that the top speed on that trip was 88. That is with a stock size Dunlop K555, which I heard is built a little bigger than the stock IRC. I noticed myself when I got the Dunlop that it seemed to look fatter than the IRC.

According to my Mini Tach it redlines at 6,500 rpm and speedo indicates 97mph. I even did that with my 100lbs wife on the back. I weigh 200lbs.
But it won't do that every day. For some reason the hotter it is out, the faster it goes. It should be the other way around.

What kind of tachometer do you have?  Where did you get it?  Was it easy to install?

Looks on ebay for "Mini Tach", and you want the DUAL FIRE version, not the single fire. It was easy to install. Four wires.

I found one on eBay but it says:

"Works with ALL V-Twins using dual fire ignitions"

My 1998 Savage isn't a V-Twin so this one would work?

It's not about the cylinders, it's about how the ignition fires. The Savage has a so called "wasted spark" ignition, that means it fires every revolution of the motor. It fires on the compression stroke and the exhaust stroke. That's why it's called Dual Fire. Mine said the same thing when I got it.

hit 100 indicated once and will never try it again. I can go from a stand still to 60 in 4-5 seconds another few seconds from there to 80-85 and a disturbingly slow crawl from 85-100 the whole time wondering if the piston was going to shoot through the head and catch me in the junk on its way out. The bike sounded pissed off at me for trying (though it no worse for wear)...so now i dont. Im not running stock though.

Mine needs about 5-6 seconds to 60. Did you do any performance upgrades?
Did you ever try the 40-70 roll on in top gear? Mine does it in about 9 seconds.
