Maximum Speed On Savage

Anyone know the maximum speed for a Savage?  I'm no speed demon but I was just curious.  I have no problems keeping up with highway traffic but it would be nice to know how fast I could go....if needed.   Wink  Zoom, Zoom!  (wait...that's for a Mazda)   Grin

I have done 95 down hill.
I can get 'er up to 85-90 if need be. It's a very fine line and I noticed the more I weighed the more my top speed decreased. I went from 220 to 200.

Found it myself here:

You think that's accurate?  I know it depends a lot on weight, any mods done, etc.  I'm using all stock stuff too.

Yeah, I weight 200lbs and it depends a lot on the wind too.   Amazing how that can affect your speed too!

As long as I can get up to 65-75mph, I'm OK...which I can with no problem.  I haven't pushed the limit yet.  Smiley

The weight of the rider isnt such a big deal,,but how much air their body grabs is a huge deal,
Im pretty sure Ive seen 100+ change, once,,almost level road, I-20, had room to air it out, got down & hid as much as I could, left hand in on the fork, feet on the engine, knees in. I think it woulda made the same speed if I had been carrying a 50 pound cast iron weight on the back, but if I had been 4 inches wider,, I doubt it,

Drag goes up exponentially with speed, thats why speed requires cubic money.

I've seen 95 mph twice on my savage which is enough for me although I would still like to get to the ton mark just to say it can be done. Stock the bike would max out around 80 mph but that was before I added a wind screen which keeps the air off my chest. Gearing is the limiting factor, you can only spin the big single so fast  unless you do some major engine work to it.

Specs say 88mph for stock...  from there, it's luck and wind, and prayer...

Those charts are gearing maximums... rpm's at different speeds, not related to HP of engine...

According to my Mini Tach it redlines at 6,500 rpm and speedo indicates 97mph. I even did that with my 100lbs wife on the back. I weigh 200lbs.
But it won't do that every day. For some reason the hotter it is out, the faster it goes. It should be the other way around.

What kind of tachometer do you have?  Where did you get it?  Was it easy to install?

That should mean your high speed jet is a little lean for top speed.

Best I've gotten was 89mph according to GPS,  Still had some throttle left but didn't feel like it had the power to go any more, if I would have kept on it, it just might have climbed a tiny bit higher.

When mine was new to me it had 7400 miles, stock everything. I got up to around 97, but since then I was told by Serowbot that the speed is optomistic with stock size tires. As the man said about the Piper Cubs when asked how fast they went he said they would fly fast enough to kill you, so that's my final answer.
