Helmet chin strap question

I did some Googling but got tired of sifting through unrelated results so I thought I'd ask here. The chin strap on one of my helmets doesn't have one of those cool plastic snaps to keep the excess from flapping in the breeze. I assume I could cut it shorter and melt the edge with a flame. Sound correct?

That will work Greg. The plastic snap on my Bell helmet broke and I just tuck the excess under the strap on the oppisite side. Course I have a windshield so I don't have the wind buffetting issue either!
