We also have an 87 F150 shortbed, 300 CID 6 banger, Fuel Injected,4 speed manual, I can get 15 MPG if I stay away from the Big Road.,
Picked it up for $2500.00, Its pretty clean & mechanically sound, I coulda got a later model, better MPG, but for so much more $$$,, ehh,, cant afford it, Hardly ever use it,. but when I need it, I need it.,

Still have the 93 two door Cavalier that the wife & I bought in 95 right before we got married (going to pass that off to the 1st born when she starts driving in 6 months). 99 Tahoe that we bought when the 2nd kid was born. 06 Honda Odyssey that we bought when kids 4 & 5 came along (twins) - also added a 3rd row of seats to the Tahoe at that time so that we have 2 vehicles that will hall all 7 of us.  Smiley

Used to have a 1997 Opel Calibra, the entry level version with a 115HP 2.0L that delivered a healthy 40+mpg
(pics off the 'net)

Now I drive a 2006 Tata Safari, 4-cylinder 3.0 TDI with 115hp  boosted to 138hp  Wink

Washing the car after a day out with friends fromt the TataClub 4x4  Cheesy
(middle pic is my own tata, the other pics is fellow Tatas on the same course, the same day)
Tata (indian brand) have recently bought Land Rover and rumors have it that the current 140hp 2.2TDi will soon be replaced by a 3.0 V6 TDi with a good 170 ponies... Cool

What's a Samari ?  Huh

If you mean the Calibra, it came in four configurations:
- 2.0 4-cyl 2 valve, 115 hp (mine)
- 2.0 4-cyl 4 valve, 150 hp (or 135 hp with smog heads  Tongue)
- 2.5 V 6 2 valve, 170 hp
- 2.0 4-cyl turbo, 200+ hp and a 6 speed gearbox  Cool
Although a German car, it was actually built in Finland (hende excellent rust protection)
Throughout the time it was sold, it was the most aerodynamically efficient Opel ever, with a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.26.
It remained the most aerodynamic mass production car for the next 10 years  Cool

You can read about it in the dedicated Wiki pages
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_Calibra

We're still extremely fond of the car...

As I use a car mostly to commute to/fr. work, to me they are essentially an appliance ... my current "toaster" is a 2008 Toyota Yaris 2-door hatchback with a 5-spd manual tranny ... cheap, reliable and reasonably fuel efficient.

Fave car I ever owned (and only 1 of 2 brand new cars I've had in 17 vehicles thru the years) was a 1985 Honda CRX ... I LOVED that car! Cool

EDIT: Here I am with my '85 CRX ... photo taken in March '86

Let's see...

1949 Dodge B1B-108 Express (1/2 ton). Perpetual project, flathead 6 with 3 spd, top speed 50 mph (has a 4.78:1 rear end gear). Soon to be getting a larger flathead 6 (230 versus 218 cubic inches). Has been in the family since new.

1969 Dodge D100-128 (long wheelbase 2wd 1/2 ton). 318 V8, 3spd automatic, on a great day gets almost 10 mpg. Has not seen a paved road since April 2011, retired to the farm after towing a horse trailer cross country. It's on the resto-mod list.

1972 VW Super Beetle, Cal-look lowrider. On the restore list.

1985 Chevy C10 (short, wide 2wd). 4.3L V6, 3 spd auto. Father in law uses it around the farm and for hardware store/dump runs. Will become a lowrider or used for target practice after he's gone. I loathe Chevy trucks made after 1966.

1992 and 1994 Fraud, I mean Ford, F75s (Rangers, if 1/2 tons are F150s, 1/4 tons should be F75s). Work junker 2wd 2.3L 4 cyl 5 speeds.

1995 Subaru Outback. Lisa's car, I don't touch it, can barely ride in it.

2006 Pontiac Vibe. Lisa's dad's car, will be her's when he's gone. I don't get near it. Unless it is broken, usually from the old guy curb hopping it.  Grin

I've got a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon... A fun little AWD, turbo, but with the extra space for the family.

WD, looove that 1949 Dodge B1B ! Had to google the pics to see exactly what it's like, and I dig it !

Any chance you can slip a more modern 4 speed or at least an overdrive unit into it ?

Not that I'm suggesting you over-mod it, but I have a vintage MGB GT myself and some mods are simply "reliability updates"

Garage queen #1.  2005 Mercedes Benz CLK500 Cabriolet 25,651 miles.  Get's 15 mpg in town and 25 mpg on the road.
Garage queen #2.  2012 Subaru Impreza purchased end of March, 2012.  Still working on the 1st tank of gas provided by the dealership.  A classic example of too many vehicles and not enough time to drive them all.
3.  2000 Mazda B3000 truck, 4X4, 5 speed. 82,500 miles but does get driven 4 or 5 times a week doing all the manly stuff like hauling crap and grocery shopping.  Terrible gas mileage for a V-6.  The good news, for 12 years, this thing has been absolutely bulletproof.
4. 06 S40.  If it isn't raining, I'm riding!  Far and away, the most fun of the 4 gas consumers in the family.

Car. Small car, but rear-wheel drive. Preferably 4-cylinder but 6 is OK, but must be rear-wheel drive.

Why? Light, good on gas but most importantly - fun. Very fun. Of course that's mainly because it's rear-wheel drive. If you can't steer with the throttle, you're not having as much fun as you could.

Currently own this - though "currently" isn't really accurate - I've had 4 or 5 cars come and go but this one has been here and isn't going anywhere. Not in working order right now.

A T-5 from an S10 or a Camaro and a couple hundred dollars worth of parts and I can go from a 3 speed getting 12-16 mpg to a 5 speed getting 18-22 mpg. And the rear axle can be swapped out for a modern one fairly simply/cheaply.

Not afraid to modify the 49 truck at all. It is getting a wood strip headliner (think Chris Craft circa mid-1950s), wood or aged copper interior panels (over modern ABS blow molded bases), 12V conversion, radial tires, front disc brake conversion (maybe), suspension lowered, windshield visor (if I can find one)...

Similar to most 1947-55.5 Chevrolet trucks you'd find in Lowrider magazine.

How do you like the Kia Bill? It seems as though both Kia and Hyundai have come a loooooooong way in terms of build quality and reliability the past couple years. (ex)Wife and I had a couple of Hyundai Accents at one time (a '99 4-dr and an '01 HB) and while they weren't bad cars it seemed that their reliability was on a "timer" regardless of milage on the clock ... with both cars after a certain amount of time had passed, the same stuff started to go wrong ... and those cars were NOT driven hard either ...
