So, if you picked up that from BCB, why couldn't you mount it whatever way you wanted and move the mounts where you need them to accomodate a bigger tire (taller, not necessarily wider)?

Well, that was my original question.  Wink

exactly.....mount the fender wherever you want, If it touches the frame limit the travel......I think that you will lose about a 1/2 inch.

Don't waste your money on those kits....It's a waxed resin which wont laminate or build layers without a lot of work in between applications.

point taken, the more you know....

BAH!!!  I called Cycle Gear and the 140/90-15 is ONLY blackwall, just like everything else!  Looks like the only choice is 150/90-15, and that's got a .9" taller sidewall!!!  Shocked

So now I'm really looking for some insight from those with the BCB rear fender.

Pics maybe?  Undecided

Have you considered "White Walling" your existing tires?

Some people have used front fenders from other bikes but it is kind of hard to pick those up without knowing for sure if they'd work.

(I know this is going back a few posts, but I was catching up...)
I'm doing a RYCA-esque thing with an 18" rear wheel, so this won't help you directly BUT....
I did exactly that, and what I did was to decide my tire size first, then look for fenders I liked the look of on Ebay; ( I just did a general search for "Vintage Front Fender", but you could drop the "Vintage" part for yours and get more choices...) I looked mostly at larger bikes; knowing they'd have larger wheels, and when I found one that I liked the look of, I checked that make and model to see if it would use that same tire size for their front tires.
Sounds like a PITA, but it actually didn't take me too long to land on the right one for me; '76 Goldwing. Still working out how it gets attached exactly, but it'll be mounted to the swingarm hugging the tire, just like it would on the Goldwing front end. Fits the tire perfectly!...

Those are pictures of the fender sitting on top of the tire without any sort of mounts. I'm still debating what the best way is to handle it is still.

Tebowl, very good idea. I may end up going that route or trailer fender if I have to.

Simon, nice pics. Is that the BCB fender? What size tire?

Not much space to the front of the swingarm. A taller tire would probably need that front most section of fender chopped. I wonder what else...

That is BCB fender without any sorts of mounts. They sell them by themselves for $125 + shipping. That's the route I went for now. I may go back and pickup the whole kit just to have the axle and mounts and then sell off the seat and mount, but we'll see.

Stock rear tire (which needs replaced this season).

Again - that is not mounted to anything at this point. So technically you could mount it anywhere along the rear swingarm there as far front as it would allow (and then up or down as much as you made the mounts go).

I've got a local guy looking at it sometime this week to see what he thinks on fabbing custom mounts. If it's too much hassle, I'll just pickup the kit and sell of the parts I don't use to make some of my $$ back.

I have to chime in here on this fender. I've seen this fender on peoples bikes and, in a tire-hugging position, it clearly doesn't have the same curvature as the tire. If the tire was larger in diameter, I think the fender would actually look better.

It's next to impossible to find a fender that has 15'' radius....maybe something from the scooter family...ha

Mine? Not yet... Waiting for a friend with some fab skills to assist. Our schedules just haven't meshed yet.

Although from Google searching, I think I want them to look something like this:
