Speedo cable oil leak
05/29/12 at 13:08:42

Hi I recently bought an 03 that had sat for several years. Went through the typical stuff to get it riding good. My question is has anybody had a problem with oil leaking out the speedo drive or cable. I checked to make sure the crankcae is venting correctly and I'm not getting oil in the airbox. I have a persistant leak where the cable plugs into the drive. The PO had put only 415mi on it then parked it in his garage for 8yrs. He changed oil and batt prior to selling it to me. I've had the speedo drive apart, nother seems amiss. 1,200mi and an oil change later still leaks any ideas.

I'm building a semi-Ryca custom and will be running a bicycle speedo. Wondering if anyone has any ideas for plugging/covering the hole where the speedo entered the tranny?

I was washing the bike the other day w/o the tank and was scrounging around for a cap to cover the speedo hole.  A copper flair tube fitting found my hand so I tried it... dam thing fit.  I expected it would stop after 1 turn, but it threaded on like it was supposed to.

so there you go, search for a copper flair tube cap.
