Bar End Mirrors
05/28/12 at 17:26:01

Anyone here running bar end mirrors? If so, what ones, how, etc?

I want to remove my stockers for something smaller, and a bar end would fit the bobber build. But the ones I picked up don't fit the bar itself (clamping on the outside of the bar next to the grips) and to go on the inside of the bar, the bar weights are in the way.

Drill and tap the bar weights and simply bolt the ones I have now in place? Or find a set of mirrors that will clamp ONTO the 1" bars?

Looking for tips from those who have travelled this path before. Did a search and found a few tips, but nobody really posted any detailed info on it, except Diamond Jim, would seems like he crafted his own with integrated turn signals.

Hoping someone can shed some light. Thanks!

hi there, have a look at my post with the tractor bobber, i got the indicators of trademe (new zealands ebay) and got the bars made by a dude in nz who makes harley bars.
i removed  the bar weights andtry'd  to fit the indicators but there were a bit  to big, so i shaved them down a wee bit till they fit. the once i got are self securing, means you gotta tighten up a wee srew inside the indicators and the fitting expans in the bars. also for thge wiering i drilled a wee hole in the bars to fit the wire through. took me all up about 2h to fit them but i like the look and it's something different.

Thanks RpN... I've seen those Oberon mirrors, even hit their site to find out prices on them... They're expensive! Yikes.

Where did you order them from? And what did you pay? Are they worth the $$?

I'm using Third Eye bar end mountain bike mirrors on my Ryca. Cheap, expendable, and work after a fashion. Tipping over with Oberons would be financially painful. Click on the Build Blog link in my signature line to see photos.

I bought a set of 1" clamps (that'd go on the inside of the bar) and they came in today... Sadly, they didn't work either... So I opted for one of the first things I had in mind, which was to drill and tap a hole to bolt them into the weights themselves.

So, I ended up with this:

They work pretty good too. With the concave mirror, it makes for a different viewing experience, but I think it'll work.

I'm going to go back and use the handheld bandsaw to cut off that extra 1/2" of handlebar that is sticking out. That'll but the mount of the mirror right up to the grip and make it look a bit better.

Rode some 200~ miles with them yesterday for the Children's Miracle Network. All went well until it downpoured as we were leaving. Luckily I had my fullface helmet and leathers with me, but that didn't save my butt without a rear fender. So with that... the BCB fender is getting ordered this week. Smiley
