I have a 2009 with 1 inchers.   Are all Savage & S40 1 inch, or did earlier models use 7/8?   I'm looking at different windshields and some are at least partially handlebar mounts.

I haven't mounted a windshield on my Savage, but I have a GIVI shield on my Nighthawk, and I absolutely love it! It's small and light enough, but I feel like I get just as much wind protection with it as I had with my full fairing Honda Sabre.
I'm pretty sure their mounting systems can be adapted to 1"
Remember, most of the Harleys have 1" bars, so anything made for them should work just fine for you.
