rotor rubbing after brake job
05/19/12 at 10:54:50

I just finished doing a brake job (stainless hose, drilled rotor, new pads, painted caliper) and after reassembly I am finding that the rotor spokes are rubbing the caliper bracket. I have the spacers in the correct place on the axle, double checked them. I also have a tkat brace installed. ONly seems to rub when the axle is tightened down. Should I just put some more washers/spacers in there?

check to make sure you put the disc between the pads   Grin

and the spacer on the caliper side has a lip so it doesn't go into the hole.

yes the disc is between the pads, and like I already said, the spacers are in the correct place.

Well,.. I wouldn't recommend just adding some washers...
Something has changed in the assembly, and you need to find what it is...

I would take everything apart, and try again...

Took the caliper off and the rotor off completely and reinstalled twice now witht the same results. here are some pictures to show where its rubbing.

Loosen off the t-Kat and see if it still rubs. Might be the slider got turned a bit some how and the brace is holding it that way.

I dont think that its the brace because its not rubbing when the axle is not tightened down. In other words with the axle loose and the brace tight it is not rubbing.

What will it hurt to try? The brace should always be loose when you tighten the axle anyway, our you could force the sliders out of alignment and cause the forks to bind a little.
The order is axle, brace, then pinch bolt, with the front wheel off the ground.

It's something about how you have the pads in...  Did you get those tin springy bits in right?...
no. 3 and 10 on this parts list...

Loosened the brace and tightened the axle, still rubbing.

Pretty sure the springs are in right, but remeber its not the pads rubbing its the rotor spokes rubbing the backside of the caliper bracket. Thanks for the quik responses, this is driving me crazy!!

I don't know rotor spokes...
Do you mean the actual wheel spokes?...

Edit... Oops...I think I know what you mean...

I'm gonna' go stare at my wheel for a bit, and try to figure it out...

I just looked at my bike.  The axle spacer with the shoulder goes on the brake caliper side - with the shoulder touching the fork leg.
