Rear brake switch cable
05/16/12 at 07:35:56

Hello,
I know this question was asked before but I had a hard time searching for and finding a concrete answer. My bike was recently inspected and the only thing keeping it from passing is the brake light not lighting up when you press the foot brake. I wanted to check on my own for the part that I need cause I know the shop will just order it right from Suzuki or an affiliated parts dealer which will likely cost more.
OR,
Is it even an expense that's worth talking about? and should I just go ahead and let the shop order it in and take care of it? I'd like to fix this myself if I could.

There is a way to adjust that, somewhere underneath.  I can't remember all the details.  Are you sure you need a new part?

Pretty sure.. Haven't looked into much myself yet. The mechanic said the cable was broke, which is all I have to go by so far.

The cables are pretty tough, the tension spring at the end of the cable is the weak link, see if it's broke or disconnected. You can activate the switch by hand and check it.

The cable pretty tough but there's a little plastic clip that's a POS.
most likely that's broke.

at the front cable connector to the brake lever you'll see a second smaller cable that leads to the brake switch.  There's a little clip that should connect the brake switch cable to the brake cable.  you'll probably find that the cable is disconnected there.  take and push the end of the cable thru the clip and secure it with a wire.

Glad I don't have inspections. I just thought the brake light only came on with the front. I don't think mine has ever come on with the rear.

YOud ride with no brake lite for the pedal to not have to do the maintenance? Run your tires to the cord?

The front one worked.
The rear brake lever alone just makes the rear end fish tail.
Guess that answers the question about the condition of the tires.
I didn't ride much in what I thought was last year but I realized lately it's been closer to two years. The whole bike needs a once over. :/

Mine would lock up with almost no pressure on the brake, even with new tires. I massaged the brake pads, now, its predictable, controllable, useable,,
