is my timing correct???
04/26/12 at 18:40:03

changed head gaskets, now when i crank the motor it shoots gasoline mist out the carb and alil out the pipes. when i pull my spark plug its dry, like NO GAS is getting sucked in, just blown out.

so did i put the cam on wrong?

this is how i did it. i found TDC and positioned the cam level with the T face up and thats it. now yall say im susposed to rotate the engine to tdc on compression stroke. but how to hell can you know what stroke the pistions on with the head anit on?

bike will not start at all. it will only kinda start if i super choke the carb with my hand. i anit getting no gas pulled in.

o yea and for those of you who thinks its my petcock or a vacum leak. thats not the problem. i did the raptor 650 petcock change and plugged the vac fitting on the carb.

Head goes on, piston is brought to TDC, checked by notches under left cover, cam goes in, lumps down, lines horizontal, chain goes on,.check to make sure crank didnt move,,

Well,.. it's sounds like the cam is opening the intake valves on TDC...

That just ain't right... Huh...

Check your timing like this,.. see if you feel the intake valves drop and come back up, before TDC on the compression stroke...
Find TDC... the easy way...

... or, check your compression.. if you have a tester that fits in that tiny space
(I know I don't)... Huh...

it seems it wouldnt matter, once the piston is tdc, its tdc now matter how you rotated to get there...

one more thing i think i realized where i screwed up. when you say "cam lumps down" your talking about the actual part of the cam that touches the rockers?

they way i did it was i got the T on top of the cam as vertical as possible,  and got the tapped holes in the cam gear level... i guess thats where i messed up since you say both valves are closed at tdc, another words cam "lumps down" right?

i feel very stupid at the moment lol. wow

put this picture in your mind...

see that yeller dot?
on the top side of it is a scribed line
and there's another one on the opposite side
line 'em up with the top of the head

see the alignment pin right next to the cam gear mounting hole?
it goes there and no where else.

notice one more thing...
see how the right side mark is up a bit?
that's cause it's a used chain
the slack is taken up on the left side
so when you got a stretched chain the alignment will be off a little bit.
and that's ok, just don't let that cam adjust plunger fall out or they'll be picking you up with a shovel.
