no need to take out the carb.
drop the bowl, you may need to pry on the bat box to get a little more room.
give the carb a twist to the side for better access to the jets.

stock for a 97 is a 145 main jet.

straight pipes are the hardest to jet and get right.

bot's carb turning is the best for those who are dangerous.   Grin

I suggest you start with a 155, get 1 smaller and 2 bigger.

you should start with 150 with a stock muffler.

So..150, 155, 152.5, 160, those sizes would be my best bet?  I think I might be confused how jet sizes work.

What pilot jets should I hunt down?

150, 152.5, 155, 157.5, 160,

stock is 52.5 so 1 size up... 55

only up the pilot if you're 3 turns out.

the number reflects volume of flow per time period.

Awesome, if cleaning the carb in the morning doesn't work than I guess I'll order some jets.  Any place I can order all those jets at the same time?

Also, How many gallons is the savage tank??

I believe the owners manual says 2.6 gallons, of which the .6 is reserve.

The manual says:

Fuel tank, including reserve........... 10.5 L (2.8 US gal)
              reserve.........................  2.5 L (0.6 US gal)

I had to look it up because for some reason I was thinking 2.7 and 0.7.  Oh well...
