welp.. im screwed!
04/16/12 at 16:12:44
I recently did a valve adjustment, the bike fired right up. I took it for a spin and started to hear a noise so I figured I adjusted a valve too loosely. So I went back in the engine, only to find that one of the lock nuts came off of the adjustment screw and it no where to be found!!! So not only do I have a lock nut swimming around somewhere in my engine, I also dont even know where I can get a replacement. It seems like a very weird size. Please help!!

If it ain't under the head cover then it's on the clutch side.
take of the valve inspection covers and fish around with a magnet.
then take the clutch cover off and I hope you find it up top.

Directly back of the rocker adjustment where you were adjusting is the cam oil bathtub. Take both of you valve covers off and fish around in the oil pool with a magnetic grabber and see if you can find your lost nut.
Seriously probe everywhere the magnet can reach (from both sides, mind you) then consider putting a small strong magnet on a thick copper wire and bending it so you can probe everywhere else you couldn't get to before.
If you can't find it up top, then do what Verslagen said, go with the cam side cover. The only way for the nut to escape the top is to go down the cam chain tunnel to the right side cover zone, but the bad news is from there it can go down the rabbit holes to the main oil sump.
Lots more probing to do with the grabber, big oil pool down there.

I think you can get a little access through the pvc? tube nipple on the right side. If you're really lucky the nut could be close enough to fish out. Just thinkin...

Which valve did it come off of,
Can you get it in a quiet place & get a friend to , very quietly lean it back & forth?
You may need to drain the oil very well,,
