That actually helps. saw a pic of one mounted to a savage and thought "huh," didn't know if there would be any benefits and seeing as how I'm mid america I don't think I'll be needing one.

Living in the Dallas area, I have been considering this mod.  I think this summer may be another scorcher too.

Many times I've gotten off the superslab in the summer and need to wait for a light, heat scorching my legs.  Add to that the amount of oil that's burnt off during the summer and I'm looking for a cooler.

At the moment I run full synthetic and check the level regularly.  In cooler months I change it at about 4K miles and in hot months at about 2K miles.    I think I'm keeping the oil in condition to do its job about as well as it can.  However, on 108 degree days in July and August, I am concerned just how much stress that heat may be causing all of my engine's internals and how prematurely some may wear out and fail.  A cooler is just an insurance policy for such high temps.

So I have the cooler for a SV1000.
and I'm looking at mounting it low so it doesn't interfere with the oil level window.
My plan currently is mount it between the footpegs.
naturally, right where rocks are kicked up by the front tire.
So, I'd like to mount it flat and direct air into it with loovers from the top. and have a deflector at the bottom front to protect from rocks and help pull air down thru the cooler.

A ''Shaker'' screen uses louvers over a grille, that's a durable set-up.

You could set up the cooler with a screen like what skeebo said. It would pretty much be protected like a radiator on a bike. They have that exact same type of  setup and really I think that'd look way good up front on the "chest" of the bike.
