Finish on bare aluminum exhaust? (Read 102 times)

Gender:	Finish on bare aluminum exhaust? 03/15/12 at 10:38:36 I got my supertrapp all cleaned up and polished. It needs some type of chemical conversion coating to protect it from corrosion. Anyone here ever use Alodine? I think it gets way too hot for clear coat. Any suggestions? I don't want to paint it black. Maybe have to get it anodized.

I'm not sure how good an idea it would be for aluminum but I had my stock header pipe ceramic coated. I keep saying that I'll do the same to my MAC muffler one of these days but the BBQ black seems to still be working on it, so I'll wait. I have been very happy with the ceramic coated header and many places have various colors available.

Reply #5 - 03/15/12 at 23:26:51 It's an acidic etching that oxidizes the surface of the aluminum and acts as a sacrificial/protective layer against further corrosion. It's not as effective as anodizing which is a dip in a tank and similar. Both are ideal for prepping for primer then paint. Or something like that.
