Yep, & while youre in there, it would be a good time to build a pigtail for a float charger. I went to Radio Shack & got audio jacks & put one on the 4 wheeler & lawnmower. Keeping old pukey batteries alive! Just hafta be cool stripping them so you dont wreck the ground, since its woven around the hot side. They are both pretty small, but, theyll handle the current of a float charger & they make for a tidy installation. & you dont have 2 ends to hook up, just plug it in & youve got the + & - in one connection. Put the female end on the bike. A real OCD type would problee build a plate & mount the thing so all youd have to do is walk up & plug in one handed. Just make sure its positioned so as to not get mud/water in it.
& If the petcock never really stops allowing gas to the carb, its POssible youve had gas dribble down its throat & into the oil. Which isnt considered to be a Good Thing by most folks. If the float valve in the carb doesnt close off completely, then the carb can flood & allow fuel to dribble into the intake. If the intake valves are open then fuel can dribble into the cylinder & Ooooze past the rings & into the oil,. Problee didnt happen, but Id have to change the oil on mine if I found a messed up petcock. Oil is cheap, bearings & stuff inside the engine? Ehhhh,, not so cheap..
