Oil leak after oil change
01/21/12 at 10:29:27

I changed the oil on my 06, and replaced the compression gasket on the oil plug (even on my cars). The plug is not cross threaded, but it is still leaking, about a teaspoon over night. I've already replaced the oem drain plug gasket.
My question is, would a nylon or (cereal box) gasket work any better  to stop the leak? Any advice would be most appreciated...
People at work are starting to tease that it's more like a harley now that it has the oil leak!!!

probably not the oil drain plug gasket.
The fit on those threads hardly need a gasket.
more likely the oil filter o-ring.

Always check the surface  that a plug or seal sits against. I have seen leaks caused from the old gasket/washer/O-ring sticking to the block resulting in gaskets stacking on each other. If you can't see under there, at least feel for a smooth, flat mating surface.

Well, I figured out where it was leaking finally... evedently, the bottom bolt that holds the footpegs and kick stand on, needs to be tight... it was a little loose... I had to lift the bike as far as the motorcycle jack would go and look at it with a flashlight, I noticed it was just a little wet after i cleaned all the oil on the bottom. Then tried the bolt and it was loose!
After tightening the bolt real good Smiley it no longer leaks!!!

Thanks for all of your advice... Ohh... I also got an alumninum washer from the local bike shop here... it's off a Honda.. not sure what model, but it works great too.
