Minimum amp hours needed
11/08/11 at 21:41:34
The stock battery is 12 amp/hours, but I'd like to use a smaller sized battery--which means less amp hours (without going to ultra expensive litium ions, etc.). What is the minumu amp/hour I can get away with and stiil have dependable bike?

This one's a YTZ7S

and I put in a '10' seems to be doing fine.

HEY VERSLAGEN,
Thanks for posting that link. I've been thinking about doing that very same thing, and Boule'tard's solution looks pretty slick; that's going to help me a lot. Cheers!

Your battery is only 6 amp hours. Could it last long enough to make repeated tries to start a reluctant engine?

Sorry to drag this out but I'm trying to learn more about batteries.
You're saying that while your battery (according to the specs on line) has less than half the amp/hours and only 130 cca, it does the job as well as the stock battery? Kind of surprising. Could it be that the stock battery, like the stock muffler, is beefier than needed?

I choose the '10' cause while it was half the size of the stock battery, yet the spec's were still close. It's an AGM too.

Thats what Im sayin. to a point. Start and kill over and over 10-12 times before it wont start anymore. If you leave your lights on for very long though (about 30 minutes) you're going to kill the battery.

You'd have to be a delivery boy for that many starts and stops.
And no matter what battery you had, it would run out of juice by the end of the day.

not bad considering it was a $35 battery. Now what to do with my 2 year old BigCrank? (that cost about $80
)

hmmm.... cut the top 2 inch off and pretend it's 7AH??
Mine is 9Ah, no problem. I rode with a 7Ah for a week or so too, no problem. And indeed, there should be no reluctant engine. There's a problem if it won't start within 5sec crank. Why Suz went with a 12? Guess they know the reason.

same reason my dads F-250s fuel filter is crammed up in the engine compartment behind a bunch of crap and my Sonoma's is wide open on the driver side frame rail. Manufacturer quirks, and we all know this bike is full of them.
