Weather is a changing
11/04/11 at 15:51:12

I rode the bike to work this morning and now it's 15min until I get off and it's started to SNOW. Guess the weather forecast was actually right. I thought I would make it home before it hit.  Embarrassed

Heavy dust for most of the day here in AZ. Viability is at about 1/2 mile here in Phoenix at the moment. I guess it's time to clean (replace) the air cleaner...again. I'm using Oldfellar's design so replacement is a snap.
I keep a 2nd filter handy and repack the one I take out.

I got caught in the wake of hurricane Irene on the highway.. so I'm not even gonna think about doing snow...

What state do you think is the best for year round riding?

Don't they have a lot of tropical storms and rain?

Florida doesn't have any mountains, so no twisties.

Cali is good except a couple of weeks a year, and plenty of twisties.

I don't like Georgia in general, but you can ride all year in the Atlanta area.  Yes, there will be a few icy days, but generally if you have the right gear, there aren't that many days that are just too cold.  I live on the SW side of ATL.  There are some fairly nice non-straight roads around here, but if I go just a little bit north, there are many many curvy roads and moderate hills.  Of course, on the NW corner of Georgia lies the Dragon's Tale.

Summers keep me off the bike more than winters.  I just get too stinkin' hot on a 90 degree day with high humidity in some sort of minimally protective jacket/pants/etc.

Those who recommend Florida are tougher than I am, thermodynamically speaking.

Yes, and yes.
But as long as it's not too windy, it's not that bad.

And like Versy said, no mountains. Barely any curvy roads. It's better near the Georgia border, but that's far away from me.

It's mostly all flatland straights.

I think Verslagen has it nailed with California.

Here in Va we have everything from twisty mountains to up an down straight a ways to just flat land, backwoods, cornfields, mountain parkways... and there's the beach.... and four complete seasons... the last time I was in Cali I drove down the 101... god I'd love to ride 101 on a sickle in the summer...

Made it home, slowly and a little more wet than usual. The snowflakes were HUGE, about the size of silver dollars about the time I got home. Snowed for a several hours off and on with both big and small flakes. Only accumulated about 2-3" but let us know Ole Man Winter is on his way.

Snow is gone from the roads now, but still lingering in the yards. Maybe I'll get a few more days riding time in yet before tearing things down for the winter MOD season.  Cool
