Air box drain
10/08/11 at 22:47:27

Hi, my name is Tom and I am new to this site.

Today I unplugged the hose that hangs to under the engine and got what looked like clean motor oil.

Followed hose upstream and found that it comes from the airbox

here's a pic of the outside of the airbox with the battery box off.
Checked inside the airbox and didn't find oil moisture in it, only a little dust

Air filter is not oily, either

I've had this bike for 2 months now (2008 S40 w/7500 miles). Could it be that this oil was there from before?
Also I wonder how does oil get to the airbox, does it come back from the carb? don't think so because it would clog.
Are there other vent connections into the airbox?

Thanks for the pic posting instructions!

Another question: how much oil consumption (burning) is normal?
Like how much for a 200 mile ride?

Thank you in advance[pre][/pre]

The breather tube from the head goes to the airbox.

When it's overfilled, oil can be blown into the airbox.  not a major concern.

You should drain that tube every oil change.

You will consume some oil over a 200 mile ride especially if it's all 65+
