Does anyone have anything good to say about Shinko 712's tires 140/90-15 or 100/90-19

If you ride more than 5k miles per year... it's worth investing in a higher quality tire...
Metzlers are top...
Otherwise,... nuttin' bad to say about Shinko...

I'm torn between a Shinko and a Kenda for my next rear...
My Dunlop rear is now a slick....
... got a Kenda now on the front... but I'm not fussy about matching...

You don't want to buy a better tire than you need...
It'll dry out before you can wear it out...

I got nuttin' bad to say about any brand of tire...
Just buy the right tire for your riding style and how much you ride...
Wink...

I've got Shinko 712s on mine right now. In the same sizes quoted 140/90-15 & 100/90-19. Had them on for about 2 years now and have put on about 2,500 miles so far. I love them compared to the stock IRCs (they were severly dry-rotted when I bought the bike).

I'm not a high mileage rider (6 month riding season here if we're lucky) but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Shinkos to anyone. They seem like good tires to me.  Cool

I put Shinkos on mine right after I got it.  The stock IRC's were also dry rotted and cracking (noticed after I purchased...).  I've got the Shinko 733/735 on front/rear.  Like em so far, like the price a lot as compared to the higher end tires.  Almost wish I had gone with the 150/80 on the rear, but wan't sure it would fit, so I went with the 130/90.  Use my bike as a mostly daily commuter, weather permitting, and like em a lot so far.  Have been caught in the rain a number of times and they grip pretty well as far as I can tell.  Put about ~1600miles on them so far and they have plenty of tread left in them.  For the price, I'm very happy.

I have the Shinko 777 100/90-19 on my front, paid $60 for it.. wish I had have waited for the white wall version but it was out of stock for 2 months and my front stock tire was really cracked and "dry rotted". So far I've put over 2k miles on it with no problems and it still looks brand new... I have a brand new IRC stock tire on the back.

What really are the "best" top of the line brand for these bikes?

It's my understanding that Shinko used to be yokohoma so they are great tires.

From their site...  news to me...  Wink...

Quote:
Established in 1946, the Shinko Group began as a manufacturer of bicycle tires and tubes in Osaka, Japan that today has become a burgeoning manufacture of rubber products.

In 1998 the Shinko Group purchased the motorcycle tire technology and molds from Yokohama Rubber Co., and began production of these products under the Shinko Tire brand. With manufacturing based in South Korea and design based in Japan, the company has seamlessly combined Japanese engineering and design principles with South Korean production and quality control standards. Today Shinko Tires produces approximately 200,000 motorcycle tires per month.

I paid (58.99 rear) (41.99 front) front JcWhitney.com I have riden them for a few days now and the ride seems smoother than the Cheng Shin's i had on it. The front end doesn't follow the rain groves and uneven pavement like the Chin Shin Barracuda I had. Plus the 712's front tire apears to be more like a 90/90-19 copaired to the Chen Shin.

P.S. i put 3,000 per week on my bike. Just needed some tires on it till i could get my Avon (ribbed) speedmaster 2.75X21 laced to a 21inch rim & Avon safety milelage 130/90 (MT90) laced to a 16inch rim

3,000miles per week! Even if it were 3,000km that'd still be 1,864miles per week.

That's nuts. If you ride everyday that's about 428miles per day, roughly 6 hours, on a bike not totally designed for long distance trekking? O.O
