I know people that have run 87 in Cadillacs that call for 93 they done it for years,If you don't floor it it want ping,And how many people drive around flooring a car.

My last three cars were all premium gas cars.  There were times on trips when I had no option but to fill it with 87.  The sensors and computers handled it just fine.  The mileage went down some, and they felt sluggish,... probably from making 10% less horsepower from retarded spark timing, mixture adjustments, etc.

Some cars these days (hyundai genesis, for example) say you can use whatever you want,... but to expect less power and mileage with regular gas.

My Moto Guzzi called for premium,, as long as I wasnt twisting it for Hard Acceleration,, regular worked fine,
