So true...recent personal experience, our office is supporting a breast cancer fundraising effort by the local firefighters by purchasing bright pink shirts that have a firefighters fighting breast cancer logo on the back. I've been wearing that shirt to/from work every Friday even when I ride the bike and every time I wear that shirt I get maybe 1/2 the waves I normally get from other riders. (one of these days I will get someone to take a pic of me in that shirt on my bike so I can post it in the ride for skatnbc thread)  Smiley

Aww thanks Verslagie and EJID !  Cheesy

I wave when I can, but I am also the one looking in the rearview mirror cause I've already blown by whomever was flicking a wrist at me.  Wink

On my last trip from Newnan, GA to Daytona, I did an informal survey of wavers, and of trailered bikes.

I was riding a Yamaha FJR-1300.  Pic below so you can see what kind of motorcycling persona it has.

When I waved first:
Harley drivers -- waved back - 7, didn't wave back - 56
Metric cruiser drivers -- waved back 42, didn't wave back - 4
Motorcycle riders (meaning other than cruiser-style bikes) -- waved back 63, didn't wave back - 7

When I didn't wave first:
Harley drivers -- waved 2, didn't wave 35
Metric cruiser drivers -- waved 17, didn't wave 14
Motorcycle riders (meaning other than cruiser-style bikes) -- waved 63, didn't wave - 21

I was also tallying what brands of bikes were being trailered.  I wasn't very thorough, but generally the ratio was about 5:1 harley vs other.

Heh, heh,..  Nothing as hi-tech as that!!  It was just a piece of cardboard I put some lines on and taped it to the top of a tankbag

The other day a few folks were waving at me, and I waved back; however, I later realized that they were making "blinking" signals at me!!  Embarrassed

The hand signal for "hey, dummy, your signal is on!!!" is to hold your left arm out and work your thumb and fingers like a duck's bill, or like a hand puppet talking.

I wave when and as often as I can.
If the person does not return the
wave, so what? I still smile and
go on my way. Oh and their
have been times I was waved
at and wasn't able to return
the wave in time, so guess it
all works out.
After all I am out to ride and
enjoy myself and the elements,
not see how many people wave
or don't.. Smiley kim
