Bike won't start!!
08/28/11 at 08:46:46

Ok so I was out riding around town, and when I stopped at a red light I killed the engine so I could talk to this old man about my bike. When I tried to start up on the green light-Nothing!

It started fine up until now. I runs fine, even if I push start it it runs like a top, so I know it is the starter in some way. When I push the start switch, then light dims as though it will start but no turn over at all. It clicks like it wants to but does nothing. I am assuming loose wire or fuse but I can not find where it might be or where else I need to check.

Check your fluid levels in the battery and charge it up.

I thought about that but my head and brake lights work fine, leading me to believe that the battery is good to go. I will check it either way.

Check you decomp adjustment.
if it stopped at the compression cycle, and the decomp wasn't tight enough, the starter will stall.

Quick way to check, put it in 5th and bump it forward to get off of the compression stroke.  Then try and start.

Checked ground it is good. I have to believe it is the battery or a loose wire I can't locate, because it had no starting issues early today so I don't think it is the starter itself.

I don't think it is the button or the starter. When I hit the starter button the lights dim like its gonna start. Meaning it is drawing juice. And it is unusual to lose a starter at 5000 miles. Especially when it worked the minute before.

Ok got the battery out and most of the cells are at or below the "low level" line. Is this enough to not start? None are even close to empty but all are low. So do I just need to add distilled water??? and also without a charger, would a push start and a good long ride charge it enough?
