Fuel tank leak at petcock
08/27/11 at 19:30:02

I've been woking on a Ryca conversion, and have everything assembled and installed but the fuel petcock. I put that in today and put about a 1/4 gallon of gas in and there was a leak at the fuel petcock, from around the bolts. It was a steady drip from the leak.

I drained the tank and removed the petcock. There was some small bits of corrosion on the petcock, which I cleaned off, and the rubber o-ring gasket was whole. I had the tank painted when I got it back from Ryca, so the bottom of the tank is smooth.

Is there another gasket that goes between the petcock and the tank or is it just the o-ring in the petcock?

Any other ideas on how to get the tank to seal?

I just saw the link on Raptor petcocks, would that help?

If the rust you knocked off was on the tank where the O ring sits, then the tank has a low spot & the O ring has a dent in it & each is trying to seal with th other.

The tank bottom is new & flat, it's a ryca conversion.

I ordered a new Raptor petcock on eBay, I'll see if that fixes the problem.

Do you have washers on the petcock bolts?

I think you're supposed to have sealing washers.
