California Emissions Law Question
08/15/11 at 13:32:43
Hey guys,
I'll be moving to the Bay Area soon and will be taking my 1996 non-Cali spec'd savage with me. Are there any legal hazards I have to be aware of regarding the emissions standards?
Will cops hassle me for IL plates? Will the DMV hassle me when I try to register it? Do I have to retrofit it with some doohickey? Is it even legal to own? lol
I don't want to run into any trouble.
Thanks all,

You should Google the requirements for out of state regs. Ca has some wild laws and even the mileage can affect what you have to do to get in. Versy may be able to help some, but you need to ask Ca DMV.

Only difference between cali bikes and 49 staters is evap control.
I don't think they'll make you retrofit.
If they do, get in touch with me.

Amongst the other fees, have a pocket full of sales tax handy. I think they have a fancy name for that,.......so that you won't be paying sales tax twice on the same vehicle,......unless you happen to have bought the bike in Ca and paid Ca sales tax already.
But after 60+ yrs, I left Ca 5 yrs ago,.....maybe its cheaper now
