Rubber side down failure
08/08/11 at 17:51:18

And so now I'm looking for parts. Fortunately, neither I nor the bike are all that bad off - worst I had was a bruised knee - but I'm having a hard time finding the part I need... Heck, I'm not sure even what you'd call it

The right hand mirror broke off, taking part of the mount with it. It looks like it's actually part of the brake assembly, but apart from the mirror mount it's fine. Even the mirror is fine, if I could just find a replacement clamp to mount the mirror back on I'd be in business.

Any ideas what to call it?  Or where I could find one without buying the entire brake assembly?

Thanks.

Sounds like part of the casting broke off,,, Youll need to replace the housing or get the broken piece & JB weld it back on, or work the whole area down & glue a nut on it. best idea is replace the whole part.

You should be able to purchase separate universal mirror mounts from a place like JC whitney or JP Cycles.

What Im getting here is that it's either weld my original back together or get a separate universal mount in addition to the one I've got on there 'cause the whole brake assembly is expensive?

How bout a pic of what you have left.  The Ryca guys are changing out their mirrors aren't they? Surely somebody has a spare.

Oh I also didn't see mention of year of your bike.  Im pretty sure my '06  and '87 are slightly different. Maybe...

bikebandit.com is an excellent source for OEM parts.  Just enter you bike model and year and they have detailed drawings of every component.  My wife broke the same part and I was easily able to find it there.  My only complaint is their incredibly slow shipping (on more than one occasion).

It just arrived.  It was EXACTLY what I needed - my mirror is back where it should be.  Yeah, the original mirror.  I don't know how it survived the hit when the mount died, but I'm not knocking it.  $20 later and I'm back in business.

Thanks again.
