it's real cheap to leave it alone until you can get what you want.
Bargains will come looking for you, just gotta wait.

I got my HD muffler for free. I think it might have been from Oldfeller, maybe? Anyways, he had an extra old one with baffle knocked out. Sent it to me and I inserted a perfect fitting washer, with a hole slightly smaller than what was there to start. I pounded the washer in from the inlet side, so it couldn't blow out. Sounds good, no rattles. Real Cheap. I think I just asked on here if anybody had an old used one laying around and got an answer in about 2 days.
Most of the guys on here are real good about that and, in my experience, real fair about cost, if any.

ebay has glass pack mufflers with 1 7/8" or 2" inlets that are 15" long or so for $20.  Weld that on to your stock exhaust header, clean it all real well and paint it with Duplicolor hi-heat paint.  (Duplicolor is the only rattle-can paint I've found that holds up for more than a few weeks.)

The result will be kinda rat-rod/bobber cool, and will be loud enough, but not arrest-me loud.

Also, why are you rebuilding your carb again, and how much are you paying for it?
