95 stock
I'm just getting her back together
after sitting for a few years.
i am trying to find a new air filter for her right now.
she runs perfectly fine until i hit 65
then there is a hesitation and i can barely get her to go another mile faster.
what do you know about the maintenance history?
cam chain? head work?

second vote - switch it to prime. Might be nothing else wrong.

Can't go faster than 55 or so usually indicates that the cam has been mis-timed. since you don't what was done to the bike and why it's been sitting, if all else failed I'd check into it.

Yep, first prove fuel is going in, If theres any tendency for it to not drop RPM when you let off the gas, then look at a sticky slide, then, check valves to see if theyre opening up, maybe adjusted on the wrong TDC, then, check cam timing,.

I never thought to put mine in prime, but that is an excellent idea. if theres any type of air leak, it would not be putting up enough vacuum to provide adequate fuel at high rpm.
It also sounds like a clogged main jet. take the carb bowl off, pull the main jet out and look at it; clean/replace as necessary. if you need more detailed instruction, check the tech section. might as well give the whole carb a hose down with carb cleaner while youre at it.
in all actuality, you might want to go up a size or 2 for the main jet if it is all stock still. get a 150, can be picked up or ordered through your local cycle shop for about $3.
definitely try in prime. definitely clean the carb. definitely check that main. the air adjust screw won't do much for higher rpm but would be worth fooling with.
good luck!

how do you put the raptor in prime? Is it straight up? Im switching to a cone filter will a 150 be adequate or do you think i should go up to a 152? im not going to do any mods until i get my little problem figured out, then im looking at dyna pipes and a cone style filter.

Ok then putting bike in prime is not the answer. I'm having carbs cleaned and valves adjusted sunday so I'll see from there what the bikes doing. Thanks guys.

yeah sorry, imma try putting mine in prime to see if i can't get more out of it on the highway.
a good carb cleaning should help, or at least give you a better idea where the issue might be.

So, you have a raptor petcock... is your vacuum tap blocked off on the right side of the carb?......
...it needs to be capped...

If setting the stock fuel thingy to PRIME has the same effect as having a Raptor set to ON, why buy a Raptor?
