I want more speed but not more noise

I want to get to that 80mph mark on this bike. Right now shes pretty much topping at 65 and that just wont do. But i work late nights so i don't want an exhaust that is gonna wake up the neighbors when i get home at 4am. Any suggestions on this?

Find what's wrong... a stock Savage should hit 80mph easily...
Check your air filter... could have a clogged jet or stuck slide...
Have your valves been adjusted?...
Changing mufflers won't help, until you get what's wrong straightened out...

Yeah 80 shouldn't be a challenge. I havent had my savage for too long but I have easily hit 80 a couple of times. 80 feels alot diferent on this than it does my old ninja.

Guess I'm a skeerdy-cat.... haven't had mine over 65... and that was the day I bought it from the PO and drove it home on a state highway.

Heck, the other day on my way to work on I-37 I found myself doing about 87 mph without really thinking about it!
Of course, I slowed right back down
. Typically, I cruise around 70-75mph on my 2003 Savage.
You should EASILY be able to sail past 65, 70, 75, and even 80mph. Generally, 85-95mph is the top end on this scoot!

even my fat 410# a$$ hit 80 yesterday on the highway...and no not downhill or with a 100mph tail wind...just straight up flat road....1996, 10.6K miles, jardine slash cut, stock airbox, carb has been re-jetted 52.5 and 152, air fuel screw 1.5turns cc, 87 octane.......nothing fancy - sounds like the bike in question has breathing difficulties of some sort, cant process the fuel to get the power.

Back when I was young and foolish I got my first Savage ('87) up to 95+ without any trouble. I was lighter, but not much - close to 190lbs. This '01 hits 65 pretty quick. Sounds like something's up.

Jahoo, we have a lot of evidence that your Savage should be faster. You need to check the ins and outs. Air and gas have to get in. Check the air filter as mentioned. Gas has to get in. Check hose, tank vent, filter if equipped, and screen inside the tank, petcock, throttle fully open. For the outs, there is nothing that holds back an engine like an obstruction in the muffler or exhaust. These are fairly simple to check, so do them first. You may have a full fledged racer on your hands after a little looking around. What did I miss?

Well, my old '87, after all it's been thru the last 3 years, is lucky to hit 70, and then it feels like I'm gonna vibrate right off the dam thing. I've had excessive vibration ever since the clutch/new (used) head fiasco. Plus, back in '87, it was only a 4 speed transmission. And now that I've gone and bashed in the bottom of the motor, she really vibes a lot. Not to mention I'm afraid my JB Weld job will vibrate right off, and leave me stranded some where in parts unknown. 80 or 90 is totally out of the question for me. If I was on a group Savage ride, I'd be bringin' up the rear.

95 stock im just getting her back together after sitting for a few years. i am trying to find a new air filter for her right now. she runs perfectly fine until i hit 65 then there is a hesitation and i can barely get her to go another mile faster.

You might try to put the bike in PRIME on the petcock and see if you can go above 65. Could be a fuel delivery problem, and there is issues with factory petcocks not providing the correct vacuum at high speeds.
A lot of folks on here are going with a Raptor 660 petcock solution, that is supremely easy to install and you won't have that problem anymore if this is the case.
