Head gasket.

Thanks to all who helped remedy my carb problem. Used your ideas and it runs like a dream. However, it appears the head gasket is leaking oil. Is this a difficult replacement? Is it possible to do in the bike? I'm pretty good with a wrench, just mostly on sb chevys.

It'll be easier to take it out, not hard really, couple hours and it'll be setting on the bench.  of course I've got every bolt memorized, so take your time bag and label.

Is it the head gasket,... or just the top cover?... it's usually the rubber plug under the top cover.
You can do the top cover on the bike...

In addition to Verslagen's sound advice, take a zillion pics as you take things apart.  With most smartphones and digital cameras these days you can even take video, which allows you to narrate something you are doing so you won't forget it later.  That has saved me immeasurable heartache numerous times. I've been able to help a few folks here too, when they asked for help on how to reassemble something.

Or print out a picture of the head, stick it to a piece of cardboard, poke holes at each bolt location, then slide the bolts in the holes as you remove them. Old trick.

I'm going to tackle the plug leak soon (or soon-ish). I found the picture in another post. Taped to cardboard and use to hold bolts.

I have to stop and remember to take pics. Sometimes that gets lost in the work.....
