Now I love a hot butt as much as the next guy but not when its mine and my seat is cooking it.

My bike was parked out in the direct Texas sun all day today until I went home around 4:00 PM when it was a nice 103 out side. I had no idea how hot the seat could get!!! I had a good 30 minute ride home and my butt was burning in serious pain the whole time.

TMI Warning: I litterally have bright red burns on my rear tonight and it feels like a nasty sunburn! Hurts like a son of a gun if I can wimp out and admit it.

It looks like I need a plan to avoid this happening again. I am thinking I will bring a small white towel to toss over the seat and keep the black seat from heating up too much in the sun. I might even ride home with that towel on the seat as a little insulation from the seat.

Any other ideas or experiences with this?

I'm with Serowbot - I have a sheepskin cover and i wont ride without it Summer OR Winter...it insulates both from heat AND cold.

I looked but cannot find a good pic of my whole sheepskin - its real. Got it online from IKEA for $30. Threw it over the seat, and use the saddlebags to keep it in place. Take it off and wash it when it gets dirty.

You can see in this pic where it goes under the bags. Other people have used real sheepskin and clip it onto the seat, or you can order them online (but they cost alot more than the one I got)

I like the sheepskin, but don't wanna cover my Mustang. Lucky for me, at work, a big tree shades my bike from about 3:00 until I leave, so its cooled down by then. But I'm diggin Vers' idea. I'm thinking a cute little triangle "tent" would be neat. Bungee from the handlebars, back to the rear fender. Hmmmm.... new project. Cheap felt-backed tablecloth might make a good material. Also would protect the seat from the quick pop-up rain showers that we get alot.

So thanks for telling us about your burned bum! Wink

But as we say around here, we don't believe it without pics. Grin

It rolls up really small and fits easily into a fork or sissy bar bag.
