I highly recommend jardine! You might be able to find one on ebay or amazon for less than the $160 I paid for mine. Also, spring for the exhaust gasket from suzuki, it's like $15 and gaurantees a air tight seal. But just to warn ya, the jardine is rattle ur teeth loud!

My ride is a 2005 LS650, customized with ISO grips, cone air filter, stage 1 jets, Jardine exhaust, solo seat, AM turn sigs, and a catseye tail light. Next year, custom paint job (hopefully)!

thx guys for the replys... now that im calm after a couple of cool 1's i can elaborate whats going one...
1) - had a 9" piece put on a Dyna exhaust welded 7 deg bend..
2) - cut 4 slots in pipe end for header to seal
3) - used Moose Racing 1.99 - 1.81" SS exhaust clamp
4) - used
http://www.permatex.com/products/automotive/automotive_gasketing/gasket_maker...
to make seal bond between header / pipe
5) - waited 24 hr to tighten both the moose racing exhaust clamp / u clamp you would use on an auto exhaust system down to a nats nutt tightness
6) drove
7) POP! KERPOW! when i let off the throttle / shift gears
8) rinsed repeated and used a corn can cut as the crush ring on the outside of the pipe
9) - See #7
ok ready for thoughtful thoughts ideas or just insults are fine too..

Awesome rant
LOL I needed that
Verify that there is indeed an exhaust leak.. look for any soot from the exhaust around the joints and/or hold a lighter flame around the joints while it is idling.. that should point out where the leak(s) are, if any.
Once you verified that the backfiring is indeed due to an exhaust leak, and not just cuz the idle mixture is too lean, you could try loosening the header flange and swinging the header outward to the right, and remove those little asbestos pads behind the footpeg heat shield if necessary to get better alignment of the header and your bend piece.. hope that helps.

We have Jardines on both of our bikes. They turn heads. Whenever we are riding together and we are in a staggered line, the unfortunate people behind us complain about the wall of loud that they have to ride through.

I would recommend,... cut more slots....
I do about ten or twelve slots with a hack saw, then use a piece of tin can about an inch wide wrapped around the header pipe. No gasket stuff, it just burns off...
Now drink some milk and have a cookie...

That was a classic rant up there, Cornfuzed.
Another good way to check/make sure it is, in fact, leaking is take a shop rag or two, fold 'em up some, and hold it tightly over the end of tailpipe, with it running, of course. If there is any other leaks, you'll hear 'em right away, and then know exactly where to focus. If no other leaks present, then it's something else, like air/fuel mixture or some such thing.
Hope this helps a little. Keep a cold one nearby.
Welding is starting to sound like a good idea.....

this probly won't help, but i once kludged up a leak on my subaru...
- i cut the rusted part out of the ex. pipe, bought a short piece to splice in, but i bought it a 1/8 or 1/4 too biig, wouldn't seal. mixed up a batch o' jb weld, took a couple pieces of steel wool, got the s.w. all gooey with jb and stuffed it in the crack all round, then clamped it down
it's been about 5 years (?) - still holding
