Helmet Style

What style helmet do you wear and why?

I used to ride a sport bike so my gear is that style.  I have a full faced helmet.  I have been considering getting a half helmet or 3/4 to have4 more of a cruiser style helmet.

Tonight I went for a nice hour long ride and I left my face shield up to experience the wind in my face more.  What I mainly experienced though was bugs in my face.  lots of little ones in my cheeks and one giant grass hopper hit my glasses dead in my right eye.  That thing exploded and filled my face with bug guts.  I will probably stick with a full face helmet after that, lol, but was wondering what you guys prefer and why.

I got my S40 about 3 weeks ago and that was the first long ride I have been on, I LOVED it btw!!

Too true, that was my first thought on the situation.
Infact my dad wore a half helmet and I watched him die on an ER table with a crushed face dealt out by a left hand turner in a truck.  I can't fathom people who don't even wear a helmet at all.

Always FF with earplugs.  I put my shield up one notch to get a nice breeze and it prevents fogging.

The earplugs have reduced the stress of wind noise and makes for nicer ride.

A co-worker went down last friday wearing a FF and he lost his shield while sliding (face down) but his face was fully protected.

Half around town and FF for longer hauls.  FF at night always because of the bugs though.  Some people rag on me for wearing a FF on a "cruiser" but I couldn't care less.

I have a couple of helmets. I have a full face motocross helmet. I have a full face modular (that I am still working on getting to be more comfortable) and I have a half helmet that I wear most of the time. Yes the bugs in your face suck but I feel like I have better periphery vision in my half helmet. They are all DOT.

I recently got a pilot style with mirrored visor. It covers most my face, but the goggle shape of the visor means no fog and no trouble with my specs (very nearsighted).
I love the look of them, totally smarta$$.

I wish the diagram of "This is what part of your head hits the ground" was in the tech section,, Such a high %age of crashes involve the chin & cheeks,, makes full coverage seem like the only answer. I know if I hadnt been wearing one I woulda either been dead or needing a complete new face, cuz I dented the cab corner of a pickup slamming my face into it. The chin bar flexed in & split my lip, good for 2 stitches,, Imagine the damage had it not been there ,,, my face woulda been busted to pieces.. Ohh,, the strap pressed into my throat so hard I was still "feelin it" when I swallowed 3 weeks later..

I landed face first while I was wearing my full face helmet.  I would have either been dead or suffered a broken nose if it wasn't for the protection.  After that, I only very rarely wear my half shell around the town.

I'm all about looks!

I think my half helmet looks goofy on me. But I do own one.

So fullface it is! I used to have a nolan modular LOVED THAT HELMET. I donated it to a mobile motorcycle trainer that has just been put into service at my base.

surprise surprise the looks I get when I park my tiny bike next to the big boys, take my helmet off and I'm Black! See all about looks that are given to me
